The Guides chose the Mental Health Foundation’s project ‘Friendship Challenge’, which aims to raise awareness of the importance of good friendships, especially between girls. To do this, the Guides took part in quizzes to determine if they were good friends, created plays about bullying and made friendship bracelets.
To complete the project the girls took on everything they had learnt and held a friendship pledge party to show their commitment to being good friends. The Guides organised the whole night themselves, choosing the theme of the eighties for their party. They invited friends from outside of Guiding and played eighties themed games, including an air guitar competition and naming eighties cartoons!
At the end of the night all the girls at the party signed a friendship pledge, writing what they promised to do to be a good friend in the future. The Mental Health Foundation are promoting the importance of good friendships as increasing bullying between girls is causing concerns of increasing depression, self harm and even suicide among teenagers.
A great time was had by all at the party and the Guides certainly proved that they can be good friends! |
