Preparations are well underway for the events that will take place in 2010 to celebrate 100 years of guiding and we want to hear your guiding memories.

That's right - in 2010 guiding will be 100 years old! It all started way back in 1907, when Lord Robert Baden-Powell set up a training scheme for boys. This popular scheme resulted in the scouting movement.

It soon became clear that girls were just as interested in being involved in scouting activities such as hiking and camping. So in 1910, Baden-Powell created the Girl Guides.

Girl Guides in the 1920s! Have you got old guiding photos for us?

Throughout the years the guiding movement has remained extremely modern and popular. The core values of guiding - such as having fun and bringing out the best in yourself and others - are timeless, and this has been an important factor in making the guiding movement the largest youth organisation for girls and young women in the UK today.

In 2010 Girlguiding UK will hold a year of events to celebrate the continuing success of the organisation 100 years after it was founded by Lord and Lady Baden-Powell. 2010 may seem a long way away but the centenary will soon be upon us. There will be national and local events for each guiding age group from Rainbows and Brownies to Guides and Senior Section. Events will celebrate the history of our guiding movement but will also look forward to the next 100 years of guiding.

There will be more details of centenary events in the coming months. In the meantime we hope to make a collection of guiding memories, so we would love to hear from you if you have ever been part of Guiding. What are your memories of your experience? Were you part of 3rd Burscough Brownies or Guides? Do you have any old photos you could share with us? We would also like to hear from anyone who knows about the history of our unit.
